The CEREC System of Same-Day Crowns

We are very pleased to offer our Stockton, CA patients the option of same-day crowns tooth procedures. We can do this as a result of our investment in a CEREC system that allows us to prepare a patient’s tooth for a crown when they come to our dental office and seat that crown in the same appointment.

A CEREC system lets us shape a durable crown in our own in-office lab. Our CEREC system includes a milling machine that quickly carves a crown out of a square of hard, ceramic material. 


To provide you with a crown, we start by preparing your natural tooth. We must trim down its size so a crown will fit over the tooth while preserving the correctness of your bite and tooth color. When this is done, we take images of your tooth and bite and send this information to the milling machine. We choose a small block of ceramic material that matches the shade of your other teeth and place it in the mill. In this process, your new crown is carved on your tooth and polished in about 20 minutes. 


We then check the fit of your crown on your tooth and make any adjustments needed until everything is perfect. You will have a chance to check the shape and color of the new crown at this time. When everything checks out, we will cement your new crown into place. In less than two hours from the time of your arrival at our office, you can be out the door with your new crown. 

That word is short for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. A service that is “chairside” does not have to be sent out to a dental lab. This process is performed in your dentist’s office. 


The CEREC system has other advantages besides speed. The high-quality ceramic material used has a similar translucence to your natural teeth. So a CEREC crown will look completely natural. 


A CEREC crown is not bonded to a metal base as many older crowns were. So you’ll never get a black line along the gum line like you may have seen on friends, or even yourself. 


Your new CEREC crown can last you decades or even a lifetime if you care for it properly. Just keep your teeth clean with a good at-home program of brushing and flossing and see us regularly so we can ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy.
